Troubleshooting

Work through installation, import, connection, and routing problems.

NuggetVPN client documentation

Start with a small check

  1. Confirm your normal internet connection works.
  2. Confirm that your provider subscription is active and refresh it.
  3. Try a different server from the same source.
  4. Check Settings → Core against the compatibility table.
  5. Turn on logging, reproduce the error, and read the failure message.

macOS says the app is damaged

macOS builds are ad-hoc signed rather than signed with an Apple Developer certificate, so Gatekeeper may block the downloaded app.

For an official release you trust, remove quarantine attributes from the installed app:

xattr -cr /Applications/NuggetVPN.app

Open the app again. This command assumes you placed it in /Applications.

The desktop permission prompt fails

Creating the TUN interface requires administrator rights. Approve the system prompt on the first connection of an app session. On Linux, check that polkit and pkexec are available.

Start the graphical app as your normal user. It starts its own privileged service; the graphical interface does not need to run as root.

A subscription will not import

Check that you pasted the subscription endpoint rather than the provider’s account or payment page. The response needs to contain server data in a supported format.

If the provider restricts client identity or device IDs, review Settings → Subscription identity and the provider’s instructions. Do not publish the subscription URL when asking for help: it can grant access to your account’s servers.

A server says it needs another core

Use Core compatibility. XHTTP requires the built-in core or Xray; Xray cannot run Hysteria, Hysteria2, TUIC, or SSH. rigby:// profiles do not connect with any embedded core.

Connected, but websites do not load

Inspect Routing → Everything else and rule order. A matching Block rule can stop a request, and a Direct rule can bypass the tunnel. Check Network connections to see the rule and server used.

Next, inspect DNS under Settings → Connection and any DNS assigned to the domain rule. If large transfers stall, try a lower MTU and compare the same transfer.

Traffic is blocked after a connection drops

If the kill switch is enabled, blocking during an unexpected outage is expected. Reconnect to restore the tunnel, or press Disconnect to intentionally release the block. See kill switch behaviour.

A routing rule has no effect

An empty rule matches nothing. A broader rule above yours may match first. Open Order, check the sequence, then generate a new connection and inspect it in Network connections.

With mihomo, detected-protocol rules and sing-box-format rule lists are skipped. Deleted specific-server destinations fall back to the connected server.

iOS installs but never connects

Check the signing certificate. The unsigned IPA needs Network Extension and packet-tunnel capabilities. Signing with a free Apple ID does not provide the required entitlement. See iOS setup.

Wi-Fi name is hidden

The OS may require location permission before exposing the SSID. Check the system’s privacy settings or add trusted network names manually under Settings → Wi-Fi.

There is nothing in Logs

Logging is off by default in release builds. Enable it from Logs or Settings → Privacy, reproduce the issue, then inspect the output. Turning it off deletes the saved log.

Report a reproducible issue

Use GitHub Issues. Include your OS, app version, selected core, protocol and transport, steps to reproduce, and the relevant error. Review logs and configuration excerpts before sharing credentials or connection details.
